Tooth sensitivity is a painful condition which can affect 1 in 7 people, most commonly women aged 20-40. The pain is usually temporary and as a result of the tooth nerve cells becoming exposed to chemical or thermal stimuli through open tubules running from the surface of the tooth through to the dentine. There are many factors that can cause sensitivity of the tooth, these include:

-Tooth whitening procedures

-Temporary pain can be experienced after whitening

-Dental Erosion or loss of enamel

-Enamel is the outer coating of the teeth, protecting the sensitive dentine underneath. When eroded or exposed, the dentine can lead to pain and sensitivity which worsens with extreme temperatures.

- A diet high in sugars or acidic foods and drinks can also lead to enamel wear, hence causing sensitivity.

The degrees of sensitivity and pain usually vary in each individual, with some being manageable while in others causing a deeper impact on their lives and diet. Most solutions to teeth sensitivity contain fluoride which works by blocking tubules on the teeth, preventing the stimuli from penetrating the surface of the teeth. Some of these solutions can be found in this category.
